Chapter Two- A Special Trip?
Ariel walked down the hall, heading towards madrigal class. She and Ruby were in that class. They were the best singers in the class, and they were the two section leaders.
“Ok, today we’ll do the choreography for ‘Don’t Fence Me In’?” Ruby asked.
“Well, Korrah is my partner for that song. Fortunately for you, today we’re practicing for the Shakespeare song today so we can work together.” Ariel answered. Korrah McKenzie was Ariel’s old best friend. As time progressed, Korrah went her own kind of way as they reached 10th grade. She became a dedicated (and crazy) fan of the Jonas Brothers, whom Ariel disliked.
The pair went into the classroom and took a seat on the mini bleachers in the class. Ruby wasn’t too thrilled about working together on some things, but all in all, she just dealt with it. Ruby was more of the leader type person. She was independent, smart, and could be a good strategist when she really needed to. To Ruby’s dismay (and even Ariel’s) Devon was also in the same class. To both of them, but mostly Ruby, he was a little...annoying. Ruby and Ariel have so far gotten lucky that Mrs. Betsey hasn’t stuck him with any of them for choreography.
The bell rang. “Ok, today we work on that song from Shakespeare’s Twelfth Night,” Mrs. Betsey announced, “but before I continue, I have some passes for some of you to report to the cafeteria at once.” Everyone was a little tense. Would it be bad or good?
“They want me to send over Ruby Martinez, Ariel Fontana, Devon Workhaiser, Korrah McKenzie, and Jasmine Whitlock.” The teacher announced. She passed over the hall passes to the group. They gathered their stuff and all left at the same time. Devon started walking over to Ruby, but she noticed he was actually walking to Korrah.
“Umm, Korrah? Mr. Mithland wanted to see you after school today,” He passed her the note; “It’s about the math project we’re working on. He asked me to give this note to you.” He glanced at Ruby, and Ruby happened to turn and meet him in the eyes. He looked away, acting like nothing ever happened. Ruby looked concerned for a second, and then continued in her current mood.
They all got to the cafeteria. When they entered, there were a total of 10 people inside. Rose, Lonna, Anna, Hector Garcia, and Bridget Meyer were there. One of the teachers counted how many people were there and started his presentation.
“Ok today, ten of you have been specially selected to attend a spectacular field trip.” At those words everyone was surprised. A field trip? Where would it be? Ruby’s day was just made. She loved field trips.
“Also, you must get this permission slip signed by all your teachers, and turn it in as soon as possible. The deadline will be this Friday.” It was Tuesday at the time, so the group had about four days, counting Tuesday and Friday. “Those of you that turn in your permission slip will be invited to the mandatory meeting. In that meeting, we will discuss everything about the trip in explicit detail.” The teacher was finally finished talking.
The next teacher stood up from her chair, “And now I have to tell you where we’re going!” She smiled, though it was a fake smile, “We will be going on an exotic vacation to a remote island in the pacific. Now, no one except for a few private schools know about this island, so it will be more private.” Everyone was surprised at this. They would take trip to an exotic island? That was out of the unusual.
The teachers passed out the permission slips. Ruby grabbed hers, and looked at the information:

This field trip destination will be to (forget name) island on November 29, 2010 to February 25, 2011 and will cost $0.00.
Please get this slip signed by all of your teachers in order to attend
Teachers: By signing this slip, you give permission for this child ruby Martinez to participate on this field trip, and you excuse her absence for this period of time. You will also excuse this student from all assignments for these days.

“Wow, we’ll be gone for about three months!” Ruby exclaimed.
“Oh, I hope Mr. Mithland will sign it.” Ariel said, uncertain about this teacher signing it. All of the other teachers would, guaranteed, sign the paper, except Mr. Mithland.
